What is the I-90 East Belgrade Interchange
Environmental Assessment?
Gallatin County,
the City of Belgrade, and the Gallatin Airport Authority have
initiated the process to obtain approval for a new interchange
access on I-90 in East Belgrade.
The focus of the
effort will be an environmental review, which will follow an
evaluation and public involvement process to meet the requirements
of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the Montana
Environmental Policy Act (MEPA). This process will ensure that there
is a full and fair discussion of all significant social, economic,
and environmental impacts before specific project-related decisions
are made. The decision-making process will be documented in an
Environmental Assessment that will be available for public review
and comment.
What is the project’s
primary purpose?
The primary purpose
of the project is to provide an intermodal link between the
interstate facility and the Gallatin Field Airport. Additional
benefits will include reduced congestion and improved regional and
local mobility. In addition to the proposed interchange facility,
the project could also include the construction of a connector road
to the Frontage Road (U-605 / S-205) intersecting at the existing
entrance to the Gallatin Field Regional Airport (U-610) to the
north, and a connector road linking the existing Alaska Road to the
south.
Where will the project be
located?
Previous efforts
conducted by Gallatin County have identified the general location of
the proposed interchange. An Alternatives Analysis will be
conducted to identify a Preferred Alternative that is physically
feasible, environmentally sound, and compatible with local planning.
